RECALLS

General Motors Corp. is recalling 149,000 1994 Buick Century and Cutlass Ciera models to correct an electrical defect that could cause a fire in the cars' door frames.

GM also said Friday it is recalling 25,000 1994 Geo Prizms to replace seat-belt anchor straps that are not strong enough.

Ford Motor Co. said Friday it is recalling its new Contour and Mercury Mystique sedans as it launches a multimillion-dollar ad campaign to introduce them. The action affects 200 cars being recalled to add a part to prevent buildup of static electricity that could cause a fire while pumping gas.

The problem was discovered when a small flash fire broke out as gasoline was being pumped into a car at an assembly plant, spokesman David Caplan said.
