RADFORD ROUTS COVINGTON 35-13

Foster Ridpath completed five of eight passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another to lead Radford to a 35-13 non-district victory over Covington on Friday night.

Larnell Lewis paced Radford's rushing attack with 16 carries for 105 yards. The Bobcats (3-1) held Covington (1-3) to 114 yards in total offense.

Elmo Dunbar started the scoring for the Bobcats with a 22-yard return of a blocked punt for a touchdown in the first quarter. Kirk Perrow then added the first of five successful PATs.

In the second quarter, Ridpath connected with Derrick Chapman on a 10-yard scoring pass to give Radford a 14-0 halftime lead.

Covington pulled to 14-7 in the third quarter on Chad Montgomery's 18-yard run, but Radford got touchdowns from Eddie Waldron and Clancy Woodrum to grab a 28-7 advantage.

Covington's Greg Entsminger and Radford's Ridpath exchanged touchdowns to close out the scoring.

Montgomery paced the Courgars' attack with 40 yards on 11 carries.

GALAX - Sophomore quarterback Travis Blankenship ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third, and classmate Brian LeFlore added a 57-yard touchdown run as the Knights won a non-district battle of 0-2 teams.

Blacksburg 16

Alleghany 8

BLACKSBURG - Tucker LaForce rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Indians to the non-district victory over the Mountaineers.

Steve Cherry added a field goal and a PAT for Blacksburg (2-2).

Freshman Donald Downing paced Alleghany (2-2) with 60 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. He added a two-point conversion.

Grayson County 20

Carroll County 6

INDEPENDENCE - Grayson County allowed Carroll County only 99 total yards in a non-district game as the Blue Devils cruised to the victory.

Chad Shaffner ran the ball 10 times for 70 yards and threw for another 40 yards to lead Grayson County (2-2) offensively. Shaffner ran in one touchdown and completed a 24-yard pass to Peter Street for a score before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury.

Barry Stockner had the lone touchdown for the Cavaliers (0-4).

BUENA VISTA - The Fighting Blues rushed for 330 yards and snapped a season-opening three-game losing streak by winning their Pioneer District opener.

Junior running back D.J. Douglas, returning from a hamstring injury, rushed 19 times for 154 yards. Sophomore Robert Snyder had seven carries for 102 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown run, and caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Brian Sizemore.

Robby Huffman passed for three touchdowns, two of them to Chris Blankenship, for the Rockets (1-3, 0-2).
