Junior running back D.J. Douglas, returning from a hamstring injury, carried 19 times for 154 yards. Sophomore Robert Snyder had seven carries for 102 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown run, and also caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Brian Sizemore.
Rockets quarterback Robby Huffman passed for three touchdowns, two of them to Chris Blankenship. Craig County is 0-2 in the district, 1-3 overall.

BASSETT - The Bulldogs scored 14 points off Bengals turnovers to stay unbeaten in the Piedmont District.
After Bassett (2-1, 1-1) fumbled on its own 25-yard line in the first quarter, Martinsville (2-1, 2-0) scored on Manti Venable's 2-yard run and Brian Hilkey's extra point to make it 7-0.
It stayed that way until the fourth, when Hilkey booted a 24-yard field goal. The Bulldogs capped the scoring with Jason Roberts' 6-yard run following Bassett's fourth turnover.

HOT SPRINGS - Ivan Franklin rushed for 91 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Chargers beat West Virginia's eighth-ranked Group A team.
Jamie Carroll's 11-yard run early in the fourth quarter gave Bath (3-0) a 20-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Franklin, who had a 16-yard scoring run in the third quarter, scored from 2 yards out with 10:49 to play to make it 27-14.
Franklin (3-1) cut it to 27-20, but the Chargers were able to run out the final 6:52.
Billy Thomas gave Bath a 7-0 lead with a 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Franklin's Lanny Redman scored twice, including a 93-yard run, to make it 14-7 at the half.

INDEPENDENCE - Grayson County allowed Carroll County only 99 total yards in a non-district victory.
Chad Shaffner ran the ball 10 times for 70 yards and threw for another 40 yards to lead the Blue Devils' (2-2) charge. Shaffner ran in one touchdown and completed a 24 yard pass to Peter Street for a score before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury.
Barry Stockner had the lone touchdown for the Cavaliers (0-4).

COLLINSVILLE - The Cavaliers erupted for 28 second-half points to blow past the Warriors in a Piedmont game.
Alley threw three touchdowns. He was 4-for-10 for 152 yards. Joyce caught three passes for 100 yards. Craighead carried 18 times for 127 yards.

Fort Chiswell 6
FORT CHISWELL - Aaron Groseclose scored two touchdowns to lead the Indians (3-0) past the Pioneers (1-3) in a non-district matchup.
Groseclose scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter, then helped Pocahontas seal the victory with a 27-yard burst in the fourth period.
In between, Alvin Davis kicked a 21-yard field goal for the Indians.
Michael White scored the only touchdown for Fort Chiswell, catching a 5-yard touchdown pass from Adam Morgan in the fourth quarter.
Penalties proved costly to the Pioneers, who saw two touchdowns - a 71-yard punt return in the first quarter and a 42-yard run in the fourth quarter - wiped out by flags. Another Fort Chiswell scoring threat was thwarted when Pocahontas made a goal-line stand in the third period.

Rural Retreat 7
RURAL RETREAT - George Wythe's defense held when it had to as the Maroons edged Rural Retreat in a Hogoheegee District game.
Rural Retreat (2-2 overall, 1-1 in the district) took the opening kickoff and drove to the Wythe 1, but the Maroons turned back the threat, stopping the Indians on fourth-and-goal.
In the fourth quarter, Rural Retreat drove from its 8 to the Wythe 7. On first-and-goal, Wythe sacked the quarterback and time ran out.
Wythe's Rodney Belcher put his team ahead in the first quarter with a 71-yard touchdown run on the drive following the Maroons' goal-line stand. Rural Retreat's Jason Funk tied the game with a 38-yard interception return, but Matt Spraker's 2-yard run in the second quarter provided the winning margin.
Belcher ran 16 times for 135 yards for Wythe. The Indians' Kenny Lethco had 84 yards on 13 carries.
Blacksburg 16

BLACKSBURG - Fresman Donald Downing ran for 60 yards on 14 carries, including an 11 yard touchdown run, and scored all of Alleghany's (2-2) points, but it wasn't enough to stop Blacksburg (2-2).
Tucker LaForce led the Indian attack, gaining 187 yards on the ground and scoring two touchdowns. Steve Cherry added a field goal and an extra-point for Blacksburg.

COVINGTON - Foster Ridpath completed five of eight passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for a touchdown to lead the Bobcats to a non-district victory over the Cougars.
Larnell Lewis paced Radford's rushing attack with 16 carries for 105 yards. The Bobcats (3-1) held Covington (1-3) to 114 yards in total offense.
Chad Montgomery paced the Cougars' attack with 40 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Laurel Park 43

GRETNA - Senior running back Solomon Paddyfote carried 20 times for 235 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Lancers to their first victory of the season.
Paddyfote's scoring runs measured 3, 42, 17 and 61 yards for Laurel Park (1-2 overall, 1-1 Piedmont District). Will Merritt tossed a pair of touchdown passes for the Hawks (0-3, 0-2).
Franklin County 13
Rockbridge County 6
LEXINGTON - John Muse rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns as Franklin County beat Rockbridge County in a non-district game.
Muse scored on runs of 75 and 81 yards, the latter coming with 7:36 left in the game and breaking a 6-6 tie.
Rockbridge (1-3) scored the tying touchdown with less than five minutes left on Gary Tyree's 16-yard run, but the play was called back because of a clipping penalty.
Franklin County is 2-2.
