MAST TO MEET FANS AT FCS

An appearance by Winston Cup driver and Rockbridge County native Rick Mast will highlight the Skoal Shootout 300 at Franklin County Speedway tonight.

Mast will meet fans and sign autographs. In addition, there will be a Winston Cup crew chiefs race, featuring pit crew members who will be in Martinsville for the Goody's 500 this weekend.

Eight other classes are on the racing card. The Modifieds will stage a 35-lap race counting for double points.

Admission is $8 for adults, and children 10 and under are admitted free. Gates open at noon and the first race begins at 8 p.m.

Stu Paul, the radio voice of the Salem Buccaneers for the past two years, has been named director of broadcasting and director of public relations of the Utica (N.Y.) Blizzard of the Colonial Hockey League.

Paul, a play-by-play man and salesman for the Bucs, is no longer in the Carolina League team's employ, although that could change.

``We're in the process of restructuring the position,'' Salem general manager Sam Lazzaro said. ``We're not sure about the future. Stu is free to look for another job or do what he wants.

``If we still have a radio opening in the spring and he's available, then we can talk then.''

Hargrave shut out Roanoke Christian 10-0 Friday night in a boys' high school soccer match. Jorge Villalba scored three goals and Garandia Diaz scored twice to lead the Tigers.
