MARTINSVILLE GIRLS BURY TUNSTALL 79-59

DRY FORK - Martinsville placed four players in double figures Thursday night as the Bulldogs blasted Tunstall 79-59 in a Piedmont District girls' basketball game.

Samantha Ferguson led the Bulldogs (6-1 overall, 6-0 district) with 26 points, including four 3-pointers. The Martinsville youngsters, sophomore Erica Brandon and freshman Jamie Farrington, added 22 and 13 points, respectively.

Kim Rich led the Trojans with 22 points and Melissa Dixon added 12.

Craig County 45

Bath County 39

HOT SPRINGS - The ejection of Craig County's leading scorer, Chrissy Robertson, didn't affect the Rockets, as they went on to win their first game.

Robertson, the leading scorer for Craig County (2-4), was tossed in the first quarter for a flagrant foul, after already scoring eight points. Bonnie Boardwine led the Rockets with 20 points.

Bath County (0-6) cut the Rockets' lead to four points with under a minute left after facing a 23-13 halftime deficit. Jenifer Adams led the Chargers with 13 points and Melanie Woods tossed in 10 in the Pioneer District loss.

George Wythe 55

Lebanon 38

LEBANON - Megan Johnson had 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Maroons to a Hogoheegee District victory.

George Wythe (5-2, 2-2) led 41-22 after three quarters and never looked back.

Sherry Rhea and Misty Puckett had eight points each for Lebanon.

Magna Vista 47

Bassett 38

BASSETT - Magna Vista held Bassett to 17 percent shooting from the field as the Warriors shocked the Bengals in the Piedmont District game. Bassett (6-2, 5-1) made only one of its first 17 shots and trailed 19-3 after one quarter.

The Bengals managed to cut the Magna Vista lead to four in the fourth quarter thanks mainly to Kim Hairston, who scored a game-high 23 points, and some horrendous free-throw shooting by the Warriors, but could never get over the hump. Magna Vista made only 9 of 25 free throws. The Warriors were led by Tanesa Kellam's 15 points and Tonia Zehr's 12.
