MEDICAL SCREENINGS, RETREAT SET

In the next two weeks, Roanoke-area medical facilities have scheduled two screening programs for people with concerns about their prostate or heart. Also planned is a lake retreat for female cancer sufferers.

Free prostate cancer screenings for men 40 and older who are not under a doctor's care for prostate problems will be offered at Lewis-Gale Regional Cancer Center Monday, 5-9 p.m.To arrange an appointment, call 776-4860 or (800)543-5660.

The Lewis-Gale center will sponsor a retreat at Smith Mountain Lake Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 for women who have had cancer. The retreat costs $35, which includes transportation, meals and lodging at the 4-H Center. Financial aid is available. For information, call 776-4167 or (800)543-5600.

Oct. 6, Community Hospital and Roanoke Memorial Hospitals will sponsor "Heart Profile," a cardiac risk assessment program, 6:30-11:30 a.m. at Tanglewood Mall. The cost is $20.
