AUTO ACCIDENT KILLS MAN, 73, IN WYTHE COUNTY

A 73-year-old Wythe County man was fatally injured when a car driven by his daughter-in-law crashed Sunday afternoon on U.S. 21 about a mile south of the Reed Creek bridge.

The victim was identified as Dewey L. Richmond Sr. of Max Meadows. He died about three hours after the accident at Wythe County Community Hospital.

Trooper Mike Freeman said the car, driven by Susan Richmond, 29, of Wytheville, ran off the shoulder of the road. She lost control when she brought it back onto the pavement.

It flipped over, and Dewey Richmond, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out. Susan Richmond was wearing a seat belt and was hospitalized for observation.
