HOME SALES

Tim Garrison, president of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors, called 1993 "an incredible year," with a 12.5 percent increase in home sales.

Agents placed 4,295 houses under contract, compared with 3,818 in 1992. Garrison cited low interest, a stable economy and a good mix of homes.

"The rumor of higher interest rates after the first of the year helped push some people off the fence," he said.
