First Union Corp., Charlotte, N.C., parent of First Union National Bank of Virginia, said Tuesday its First Union Brokerage Services Inc. affiliate of First Union National Bank of North Carolina will start a diversified mutal fund investing primarily in utility company stocks and bonds. Opening investments are a minimum of $1,000.

The Lewis-Gale Psychiatric Center has named The Maddox Agency as its advertising agency to handle professional and consumer communications. The agency will assist initially with marketing information systems for existing and planned programs. The Maddox Agency is an advertising, media and marketing consulting firm with offices in Roanoke and Richmond.
