Heilig-Meyers Co., Richmond-based home furnishings retailer, said Wednesday it has acquired assets of 92 stores of McMahan's Furniture Co. of Carlsbad, Calif., in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada and Colorado. The purchase price, after subtracting accounts receivable and real estate, was about $55 million.

James River Products, a Richmond-based company with 20 employees, has sold embossed hologram printing equipment to one of Mexico's largest commercial printing companies under the North American Free Trade Agreement. By waiting until NAFTA went into effect Sunday to receive the shipment, Procesos Graficos para Publicidad SA de CV cut the cost of importing the equipment, a James River spokesman said. Procesos Graficos paid more than $500,000 for the equipment and a production facility James River Products built in Leon, Mexico.
