2 MORE RETAILERS EMERGE AS POTENTIAL MACY'S BIDDERS

Only days after Federated Department Stores Inc. announced that it wants to acquire R.H. Macy & Co., two other players have emerged as possible buyers of the venerable New York-based retailer.

Dillard Department Stores Inc. of Little Rock, Ark., and May Department Stores Co. of St. Louis, Mo., each are said to be interested in purchasing all or part of Macy's, which is operating under bankruptcy-court protection.

Both are well-managed, profitable department-store operators that have displayed a penchant for expansion through acquisition.

Neither retailer would comment Wednesday on the reports, which are circulating widely in the financial community.
