BLACKSBURG 911 TAX INCREASE

Town telephone customers will see an increase in the E-911 tax on their telephone bills. The tax, originally levied to pay for the Enhanced 911 emergency telephone system, will jump from 23 cents to 94 cents a month starting with this month's bills. That includes an 8-cents-per-month "adjustment" to recoup revenues uncollected after a "mailing error" kept the tax increase from going into effect as scheduled in mid-November.

Town Council in September adopted the ordinance to increase the tax from 23 cents to 86 cents a month.

The 8-cent rate adjustment will be collected during 1994 only. After that, the tax will drop to 86 cents a month.

C&P Telephone collects the tax for the town.

Revenue from the E-911 tax supports Blacksburg's emergency dispatching system, including equipment maintenance and dispatchers' salaries.
