Billy Eugene Belcher Jr., 34, will stand trial March 14 on charges that he embezzled more than $56,000 from a Montvale oil storage facility he formerly managed.
Authorities claim Belcher created a fictitious company to divert the money from his employer, Star Enterprise Sales Terminal, into his personal account. He is accused of writing checks and submitting false invoices from August 1991 through December 1992 for work allegedly done by J&B Enterprises, a company owned by Belcher and his wife, Jane.
During a preliminary hearing last month, a Bedford County sheriff's investigator testified that Belcher told him J&B Enterprises owned no equipment and had no employees other than himself and his wife.
Belcher's attorney argued that his client earned the money as a consultant to the Houston-based company.
Belcher was fired from Star Enterprise in January 1993.
