OBIT MILLER, JAMES DUFFY
MILLER, James Duffy, 81, of Pearisburg, died Tuesday, January 4, 1994, in
Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Miller was born on October 8, 1912, in Bronx,
N.Y., and was a son of the late John Peter and Josephine Guran Miller and was
preceded in death by his grandson Jonathon Hellwig. Mr. Miller was previously
from Culver Lake, N.J. Mr. Miller had served his country in the National Guard
and was an army veteran of WWII having served in both the European and Pacific
Theaters. He was an employee of the Irving Trust Co. in New York City for 37
years and was also retired from the New York State Banking Dept. A member of
First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland, VP & Trustee of Christ Union
Chapel, Culver Lake, N.J., member of Fidelity Lodge #113 A.F. & A.M.,
Ridgewood, N.J., New York Civil Employees Association, the Senior Citizen's
group in Pearisburg and a volunteer at the Giles Christian Kitchen. He is
survived by his wife, Claire Madison Miller of Pearisburg; three daughters and
sons-in-law, John and Eleanor Ziegler of North Merrick, N.Y., Burt and Nancy
Noble of Pearisburg, Va., Gilbert and Jane Hellwig of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; one
sister, Doris Nier of West Haverstraw, N.Y.; five granddaughters, Susan and
Laura Ziegler, Heidi and Megan Noble and Emily Hellwig and several nieces and
nephews. There will be a memorial service of celebration Thursday, January 13,
1993, 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, Va. with Rev.
Gilbert Hellwig and Rev. Warren Stewart officiating. Donations may be made to
the Giles Christian Kitchen or to your favorite charity.
