OBIT AKERS, WILLIE D.
AKERS, Willie D., 87, of 1100 Block of Kittery Drive, Virginia Beach, died
Wednesday, January 5, 1994 at his residence. He was born in Floyd County. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred B. Akers. He was was a member of
Gateway Freewill Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. He had been active at
Community United Methodist Church for many years until his wife's death. Mr.
Akers lived in Mullins, W.Va. while working for the Virginian Railroad which
became the Norfolk Southern Railroad from which he retired after 62 years as a
roadmaster. He was a member of the Retired Roadmaster's Association and the
West Virginia University Alumni Association. He is survived by three
daughters, Barbara Anderson, Virginia Beach, Melva Houck, Virginia Beach,
Joyce Galbraith, Columbus, Ohio; one son, Willie D. Akers Jr., Logan, W.Va.;
seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on
Saturday, January 8, 1994 at 11 a.m. at Gateway Freewill Baptist Church with
Pastor Dale Burden officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial
Gardens. Friends may join the family Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 at the
funeral home. Arrangements by Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Virginia Beach.
