\ TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2915 Epperley Ave. N.W., has reopened its Thrift Shop, which sells clothing and household articles for minimal prices each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Profits are used for a number of ministries the parish supports.
\ SUMMEREDEAN CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN, 6604 Plantation Road, will begin a series of weeknight discussions on Jan. 25. The Rev. James Worline, pastor, will lead "Mid-Life: The Crisis That Brings Renewal" each Tuesday from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. through April 26. Child care will be provided.
The Rev. Dr. Owen Stultz, retired executive of Virlina District, Church of the Brethren, will lead "The Golden Years: Riding the Crest" for older adults from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through March 9. Cost of this class is $6.

\ CORNERSTONE CHURCH, an evangelical Christian congregation meeting at 6930 Woodhaven Road, will start two new classes for adults on Sunday. The 10 a.m. classes will continue for the next three months.
One class, "Weekday Challenges," will focus on the Christian response to the working world while; the other, "Weekday Relationships," will deal with marriage and family issues through all age levels. Call 362-2187 for more information.
\ THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY will be celebrated tonight with two events at Christ Episcopal Church, 1101 Franklin Road S.W. A service of light with Holy Eucharist will begin at 7. After the service, participants at a social will remove Christmas decorations.
Epiphany is observed in some churches as the last day of Christmas when the three kings visited the infant Jesus. "Taking the Light of Christ to the World" is its theme.
\ THE REV. WILLIAM PARKER, who served Baptist churches in the Roanoke area many years ago, has become part-time choir director at West End Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Helen, recently retired to Roanoke.
\ SHILOH BAPTIST CHURCH in downtown Salem has chosen the Rev. Adrian E. Dowell as its next pastor. His service of installation will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the church at South Market and Burwell Streets.
Dowell, 36, is the son of a Bluefield, W.Va., minister and is coming from a 10-year pastorate at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Switchback, W.Va.
He is a graduate of Bluefield State College and is taking graduate study through Trinity College of the Bible and Theology in Newburgh, Ind. He and his wife, Denise, have a son and daughter.
He succeeds the Rev. Enos Glaspie, who retired in June of 1992 after serving Shiloh for 40 years.
\ DR. DAVID RHOADS, New Testament professor at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, will speak Jan. 20 at 11:15 a.m. at the Roanoke College Convocation series. His lecture, "The Sermon on the Mount," will be given in the college Sutton Student Center ballroom. Rhoads is a specialist in narrative Biblical criticism, an approach to Scripture from a literary point of view.
He will be at St. John Lutheran Church at Cave Spring on Jan. 16 at 3:30 p.m for a free public drama presentation, "The Gospel of Mark."
On Jan. 21, the same program will be given in Blacksburg's Litton Reeves Auditorium at 7 p.m. For more information call 375-2268.
