VICTOR W. GRAVELY of Roanoke has been promoted to adviser in the marketing and customer services department of Appalachian Power Co.

He achieved more than 100 percent of his 1993 marketing sales goal.

Gravely, a 1986 graduate of Virginia Tech and 1993 graduate of the United Way's Minority Leadership Enhancement program, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman "Knott" Gravely of Roanoke.

\ KENNETH KLINGER, president of Klinger Consulting Group, recently received the Julian Wise award from the Safety Council of Southwest Virginia. The award is given to a person who has contributed to community safety through education and training programs.

\ RON MILLER, building commissioner for Roanoke, was named the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association's 1993 Public Employee of the Year.

Miller was recognized for establishing quarterly meetings between the city and the association where issues that affect the home building industry are discussed in an open forum.

\ THE WESTERN VIRGINIA DISTRICT BANKRUPTCY COURT recently presented service awards to several employees. Barbra Argenbright and Lotus Rooksberry were recognized for 15 years of service; and John W.L. Craig II, Sharon Jones, Linda Stone and Denise Williams were recognized for five years.

Argenbright, Mike Mills and Peggy Moulse, all of Roanoke, were also honored as Employees of the Quarter for 1993.

\ LESLIE RHODES CARPENTINO, a personal financial planner with IDS Financial Services Inc. in Roanoke, has earned the professional designation Certified Financial Planner.

Requirements for certification include course work and examinations in the financial planning process, risk management, investments, tax planning, retirement and employee benefits, and estate planning.

\ GARRY LAUTENSCHLAGER, chairman of the Safety Council of Southwest Virginia, recently received the council's Horace Hood award.

The award is given for outstanding safety promotion work in the community.

Lautenschlager is also the executive director of the Western Virginia Medical Services.
