The Mini-World Child Care Center at Colorado and Third streets expects to open its 4,000-square-foot addition near the end of January, said Keith Bradshaw, who owns the center with his wife, Diane.
After opening the new portion, the present building will be remodeled to give the center a total floor space of about 7,500 square feet.
The enlarged facility will allow the center to lower its minimum age from 2 1/2 years to 16 months and to provide separate quarters for preschool and school-aged children, Bradshaw said.
Mini-World was begun at this Salem location 10 years ago. About three years ago, it built a second child-care center in the Glenvar area of Roanoke County.
