CHRISTIANSBURG DEFEATS GILES

Giles' Patrick Steele scored a game-high 27 points, but it wasn't enough as Christiansburg rallied from a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter Thursday to win a non-district high school basketball matchup 57-52.

John Hairston (15 points) was the only double-figure scorer for Christiansburg (5-4), which outscored Giles 9-4 in the last two minutes to pull out the victory.

The Spartans are 0-2.

Rustburg 47

RUSTBURG - The Minutemen used pressure defense and balanced scoring to defeat the Devils in the Seminole District.

David Ross led Liberty (6-1 overall and in the district) with 17 points, Craig Coleman had 12 and Greg Reynolds added 10.

Warrick Morgan and Michael Brooks scored 10 points each for Rustburg (0-3, 0-3). \

Glenvar 68

Radford 41

The Highlanders shot 63.4 percent from the field and outrebounded the Bobcats 43-20 as they rolled to a non-district win.

Glenvar (2-2) led 36-24 at halftime and outscored Radford 23-8 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Brad Melton scored 16 points for the Highlanders and David Robinson added 12. Jason Anderson grabbed eight rebounds.

Glenvar held all Radford scorers in single digits. \

North Cross 91

Hargrave 79

Monty Smith scored 38 points and grabbed 21 rebounds added 21 as the Raiders downed the Tigers in the Virginia Independent Conference.

Hargrave's Billy Reed led all scorers with 44 points. Tom Sauls chipped in 13.

The Tigers are 2-6 overall, 1-4 in the conference. North Cross is 2-2, 1-0.
