GLOBAL STUDIES SCHOOL OFFERING 1ST COURSE

The New College of Global Studies at Radford University will offer its first course this spring - Seminar in Institutional Studies: American Culture for Export.

The course, to be taught by Associate Provost Myurl Guy Jones, will focus on the impact of American culture on foreign cultures. The class will examine how American culture influences language, music, mass media, fashion, tourism, trade and other areas.

The course will promote new technology and international relations. Students will pick specific countries and "take charge of their own learning," Jones said. They will choose their own projects and topics of study.

As part of their research, students will develop contacts with people who rely on international resources, both within the university community and via Internet, an on-line computer network that provides access to other networks around the world.

The seminar will be offered as part of the international studies minor, a social science or as a liberal arts core option.
