Tony George, whose Indianapolis 500 race is the premier event on the Indy-car circuit, resigned from the series' governing board in a longstanding dispute with car owners.

"My decision is based on my continuing dissatisfaction with the decision-making process dictated by the organizational structure of CART," George, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, said in a statement.

Championship Auto Racing Teams sanctions all Indy-car racing except the Indianapolis 500.
