It was the seventh consecutive victory for the Hokies (9-1), whose only loss this season was to 17th- ranked Virginia. The 1988-89 and 1992-93 teams also won seven in a row.

Tech took advantage of 26 fouls called against the Moccasins, hitting 34 of 39 free throws.

The Hokies held a 49-40 lead with 15 minutes, 56 seconds to play, but Tennessee-Chattanooga (4-7) rallied to go up 65-60 with five minutes, 44 seconds remaining. Tech tied the score at 73 on a jumper by Lisa Leftwich and took the lead on two free throws by Sue Logsdon with 46 seconds left.

Logsdon finished with 15 points, Jenny Root scored 14, Angela Donnell had 12 and Leftwich finished with 10 points and six assists for the Hokies.
