BLACKSBURG - The Mountaineers took advantage of a 32-15 advantage in free-throw attempts to defeat the Indians.
Todd Wheatley scored 16 points to lead Alleghany (4-4), which hit 18 of its free throws to six for Blacksburg (0-4). Jermaine Winston had 13 points and Shrell Bolden added 11.
Jay Safford scored a game-high 18 points for the Indians, who also got 11 points from Michael Dowdy and 10 from Ben Araman. \

DALEVILLE - Ryan Salvi sank six 3-pointer and hit two free throws for 20 points as the Cavaliers rebounded from Friday night's loss to Salem to defeat the Raiders.
Salvi hit three 3-point goals in the first four minutes to give Lord Botetourt the early edge, but the Cavaliers got into foul trouble and were forced to play zone defense. North Cross failed to capitalize off the situation and Lord Botetourt got the non-district win.
Monty Smith scored 20 points for the Raiders, and Marcus Cardwell added 15.
Jeff Cronise grabbed 19 rebounds as the Cavaliers outrebounded North Cross 51-38. \

ROCKY MOUNT - Fifteen was the magic number for the Eagles as they got that many points from three players in a wild non-district victory over the Bulldogs.
Chad Foutz, K.C. Hancock and Carlos Holland led Franklin County (5-4) in scoring during a game that featured 41 fouls and two ejections.
Michael Martin led Martinsville (8-2) with 26 points and Markus Secton added 10. \

RINER - The Eagles, forced to play at a slower tempo than they prefer by the Blue Devils' deliberate attack, took control in the second half and held on for a victory in a Mountain Empire District showdown.
Jon Reed led the way with 17 points for Auburn, which cut its miscues from 19 in the first half to nine after intermission. Randy Bonds contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Mike Bower and Kerry Millirons scored 12 points each. Bower also had six assists.
The victory moved the Eagles (6-1, 5-1) into a tie with Grayson County for first place in the district, pending the outcome of Saturday night's game between co-leader Floyd County and Giles.
Shane Griffin had 10 points to lead the Blue Devils (6-2, 5-1), who could not overcome their 28 turnovers. \

LYNCHBURG - Holy Cross built a 33-25 lead at halftime and expanded that in the third quarter to notch a Virginia Independent Conference victory over the Eagles.
Billy Fluker led Roanoke Valley Christian (3-5, 2-1) with 12 points, Joe Surkamer added 11 and Joel Nester had 10.
Holy Cross improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference. \

Chris Combs' free throw gave the Patriots the winning margin in a non-district game.
Combs finished with a game-high 25 points for Patrick Henry (5-1), which trailed 34-33 at halftime. Three Patriots scored in double figures.
Calvin Thompson led Heritage with 23 points. \

PIPESTEM, WVa. - John Toler scored eight of his 11 points in the third quarter as Pipestem pulled away for a non-conference victory over the Crusaders.
Ryan Gordon, Gateway's leading scorer, collected three fouls in the first two minutes of the game, and Pipestem used a 19-5 third period to put the game out of reach.
The Crusaders (2-2) were held to 14 points in the first half. \

LYNCHBURG - The Eagles used a successful full-court press in the fourth quarter to pull away from Holy Cross in a Blue Ridge Conference game.
Jenny Coons led Roanoke Valley Christian (4-4, 2-0) with 10 points. Lauren Tucker led Holy Cross (7-3, 2-2) with eight.
The Eagles trailed 21-19 after three quarters, but their press held Holy Cross to three points in the final period. \
