SURGE OF NOVEMBER BUYING PUSHES SALES OF HOMES UP

The pace of home sales in Virginia rose 12.2 percent in November but remained virtually unchanged for the first 11 months of last year, according to a new report.

The Virginia Association of Realtors last week reported its members wrote sales contracts on 4,826 houses in November, up from 4,300 in November 1992. For the first 11 months, 60,178 houses were sold, a 0.2 percent increase over 60,044 in the corresponding period of 1992.

"With mortgage rates remaining in the single digits, we're seeing continued consumer confidence," said the association's president, Edward E. Pagett.
