HEAT SOURCE BLAMED FOR BOTETOURT FIRE

A fire that destroyed a double-wide trailer in Botetourt County on Saturday night has been ruled accidental.

Troutville Volunteer Fire Chief Greg Sleboda said Sunday the fire has been tied to either a kerosene heater or a wood stove.

The trailer off Houston Miles Road was empty when the fire started. A neighbor called 911 after spotting flames coming out of the windows, Sleboda said.

Lori Edwards, 25, lived in the trailer with her two children, 6-year-old Chelsea and 4-year-old Tessa, and her father, Amos Lee.

The trailer is owned by Ann Gladwell, Edwards' mother.

Sleboda and Gladwell said the family lost everything in the fire. Clothes, food and other donations can be dropped off at the Fire Department on Sunset Avenue in downtown Troutville, Sleboda said.

In a piece of good news, "Bear" - a black Labrador retriever believed to have perished in the blaze - was found Sunday.
