ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The number of bankruptcies filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Roanoke rose 7.5 percent in December from a year ago. The court counted 190 cases, compared to 177 last year. The number was down 15.5 percent from November's 225 cases.

Business bankruptcies fell 45 percent from November. They were up 5 percent from last year.
