EAGLES SINK FREE THROWS AT THE END

Roanoke Valley Christian converted 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter Monday night to hold off Lynchburg Christian Academy 57-46 in high school basketball.

The Eagles (4-5 overall, 3-1 Virginia Independent Conference ) asserted themselves after the Bulldogs (4-6, 3-3) used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 40-all.

Scott Apjok led the Roanoke Valley Christian with 17 points and 9 rebounds, and Richard Booth added 12 points and 8 assists.

Holy Cross 80\ North Cross 66

LYNCHBURG - The Crusaders capitalized on a huge discrepancy in free throws to defeat the Raiders in the Virginia Independent Conference.

Holy Cross (8-2, 4-1) attempted 50 free throws to 15 for North Cross (2-4, 1-1). Mark Lightner led the Crusaders with 34 points, and Luke Lesniak scored 17.

Montrice Smith had 31 points and 15 rebounds, and Hal Johnson added 23 points for the Raiders. Marcus Cardwell had 10 assists.

Northside 69\ Christiansburg 45

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Vikings won the middle two quarters 36-16 to hand the Demons a non-district loss.

Dana Gibson had 17 points, Chad Brammer 13 and Nathan Hungate 11 for Northside.
