\ 10:30 a.m.: "Young Tom Jefferson," a play. Carpenter Center, Sixth and Grace streets, Richmond. Free admission by invitation to students at several Richmond-area schools.

\ 6:30 p.m.: Democratic Party reception, Jefferson Hotel, Main and Jefferson streets, Richmond. $75 per person.

\ 8:30 p.m.: Legislative Black Caucus dance, Jefferson Hotel, $20 per person or $35 per couple.

\ 9 p.m.: "Governor's Gala," a 90-minute musical program featuring performers including singers Ricky Van Shelton and Marilyn McCoo and actor Dabney Coleman. The Mosque, Main and Laurel streets, Richmond. $75 per person.\ SATURDAY\ \ 8 a.m.: Prayer breakfast, Marriott Hotel, Richmond. Sold out.

\ 11 a.m.: Democratic luncheon, Richmond Omni, 12th and Cary streets, Richmond. $20 per person.

\ Noon: Swearing-in ceremony. State Capitol, south portico. Free standing-room admission. Bleacher seating by invitation only. Parade to follow.

\ 5:30 p.m.: Democratic reception and dinner, Jefferson Hotel, $500 per person.

\ 8 p.m.: Inaugural balls at the Richmond Marriott, Fifth and Broad streets, and the Richmond Centre, Fifth and Marshall streets, Richmond. $100 per person. A third ball, scheduled for the Richmond Coliseum, has been canceled. Tickets for that ball will be honored at the Richmond Centre. There also will be a Youth Ball, for Allen supporters ages 16-20, at the Tredegar Iron Works. $40 per person.
