OBIT BATTEN, LOUISE G. BALLARD
BATTEN, Louise G. Ballard, 82, of Union Hall, formerly of Salem, passed
away Monday, January 10, 1994 in Lewis Gale Hospital. Mrs. Batten was the wife
of the late Earl W. Batten, Chief Engineer for the Blue Ridge Parkway. She was
a retired registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and
was a member of Providence Holiness Church, Union Hall. She is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis B. and George ("Buck") Wood, Jr.; one
grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Tracy B. and Barbara Wray Wood; one
granddaughter and grand son-in-law, Leigh Hurd Laury and Dennis E. Laury; two
great-grandsons, Chris Hurd and Cody Wood; three sisters, Helen Cropp, Celeste
Greaver and Inez Smith; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frances Farrar,
Margaret and Gene Wager, Louise H. Batten, Nancy Lee and Fred Reynolds.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Thursday at Flora Funeral
Chapel with the Rev. Charles Swicegood officiating. Graveside services will be
conducted at 2 p.m. at Monticello Memory Gardens, Charlottesville, Va. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Providence Holiness
Church, Union Hall, Va. 24176. Friends may call after Noon Wednesday with the
family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 342
S. Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va.
