SOME DON'T LIKE IT HOT

Several readers found the Hoppin' John recipe that ran Dec. 29 a little too hot for their tastes.

As noted, there are many versions of this traditional dish, and the measurements and ingredients given were accurate. To lower the heat, though, either decrease the amount of hot red pepper flakes to taste, or add the peppers to black-eyed peas after they have finished cooking.
