PULASKI CHARGES 3 IN TEEN'S BEATING

Pulaski police have charged three people with the November beating of a Pulaski County teen-ager in the downtown area.

Alvin Harlan Smith Jr., 18, of Magazine Street in Pulaski, and two teen-aged boys have been charged with malicious wounding of a 16-year-old boy from the Caseknife section of the county. The boy was beaten in a parkng lot near John's Grill in the southeast section of town, Sgt. Ed Hogston said. Hogston said the boy was tossed into the air and thrown to the ground several times, kicked, and stomped in the face. He said the boy has undergone surgery to repair damage to his jaw and nose.

"He did take a very bad beating," Hogston said.

An investigation revealed that the boy was walking down the street when he came across three girls, who said there was an exchange of words. Smith and the other two teen-agers charged came along, Hogston said, asked the girls what was going on, then reacted by beating the youth.

Smith is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 17.

The juveniles charged in the case, ages 16 and 17, will appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Feb. 8.
