BLACKSBURG BEATS GRAHAM FOR 1ST WIN

Jay Safford scored 17 points to lead Blacksburg to its first victory, a 63-51 non-district win over Graham on Wednesday night in boys' high school basketball.

Ben Araman added 15 for Blacksburg (1-5), Michael Dowdy scored 12 and Tony Wheeler had 10.

Jay Gray led the G-Men (7-2) with a game-high 22 points.

Blacksburg jumped to an 18-9 first-quarter lead and never trailed after that. \

Christiansburg 66

Giles 43

CHRISTIANSBURG - Denny Self had 11 of his game-high 18 points in the third quarter as the Demons broke open a close game and beat the Spartans in a non-district game.

Christiansburg (6-5) stretched a five-point halftime lead to 13 after three quarters and won going away.

Bobby Oglesdy had 11 points for Giles, and Patrick Steele added 10. \

Richlands 79

Carroll County 59

RICHLANDS - Matt Hodock scored 25, and Chris Harrison added 21 as the Tornadoes blew apart the Cavaliers in a non-district game.

Richlands (3-4) led 53-48 late in the third quarter when Steve Dye hit a 3-pointer to start an 11-0 run.

John Wolford led Carroll County (2-5) with 24 points, but only one of them came in the fourth quarter when the Cavaliers were outscored by 12 points.

Franklin County 69

Eleven players scored for the Knights as they defeated the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game.

Matt Matheny scored 17 points to lead Cave Spring (6-6, 2-0). James Irvin had 14 points, and Jeff Lang added 12.

Franklin County's Carlos Holland led all scorers with 26 points. Chad Foutz chipped in 13, including three 3-pointers, for the Eagles. \

Tuesday's game

\ Gateway Christian 92, Temple Christian 46: At Abingdon, Gateway Christian (3-2) rode the scoring of Aaron Meadows and Ryan Gordon, who combined for 47 points, to an easy victory. Meadows scored 26 for Gateway (3-2) to take game honors. Temple Christian (0-1) was paced by Aaron Compton with 18. \
