GEORGIA TECH SLUGS TAR HEELS

Travis Best scored 10 of his 27 points in the final 2:45, sparking 17th-ranked Georgia Tech to an 89-69 upset of top-ranked North Carolina on Wednesday night.

The Yellow Jackets, who never trailed, snapped Carolina's 10-game winning streak as the Tar Heels (12-2 overall, 2-1 ACC) fell in their first game since climbing to the top of the Associated Press poll on Monday.

Tech (10-3, 1-2) also got 22 points from James Forrest, eight of those in the last 3:10 when the Jackets took control after Eric Montross' jump hook closed the deficit to 68-64 with 3:55 to play.

Montross led the Tar Heels with 20 points.

\ Radford 91, Winthrop 68: At Rock Hill, S.C., Don Burgess scored a season-high 25 points to lead the Highlanders to a Big South Conference victory.

Radford (9-3, 3-1) has won eight of its past nine games and three straight.

Radford led by 22 points in the second half. With 12:45 remaining, the Highlanders led 63-41, but a 17-4 Winthrop run cut the margin to 67-58 with 6:15 remaining.

Melvin Branham led the Eagles (2-9, 1-2) with 29 points. Mike Fayed, a junior guard from Cave Spring High School, had five points.
