WOMAN STABS SOCCER PLAYER

A woman stabbed a member of the Hamburg SV soccer team Wednesday while he sat in the stands watching an indoor soccer tournament at Stuttgart, Germany.

Oliver Moeller is an amateur player under contract with the Bundesliga club Hamburg. After surgery, doctors said the knife pierced his diaphragm and damaged the outer skin of his liver. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Moeller, 25, was in the players' section of the stands in Stuttgart's Hans-Martin Schleyer Hall when a 28-year-old woman jumped up and attacked him with an 8-inch kitchen knife.

Police spokesman Michael Kuehner said the woman was overpowered by another spectator and arrested. Police did not know the woman's motive and did not release her name. The woman was reported to be a season-ticket holder for the home games of Stuttgart VfB, the club that is host to the tournament.
