OBIT--AKER, J.B.
AKER, J.B., 73, of Route 3, Wytheville, died Tuesday, January 11, 1994, in
the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was a retired dairy farmer and was a
business agent for the International Union of Operating Engineers of Local
#158 Roanoke, Va. for 17 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Vaught
Aker of Wytheville; one daughter and son-in-law, Helen Virginia "Ginger" and
Daryl E. Porter of Max Meadows; four sons and daughters-in-law, J. Stephen
Scott and Patricia Sutherland Aker of Wytheville, John Christopher and Brenda
Jackson Aker of Wytheville, David Alexander and Teresa Branscome Aker of
Wytheville, Thomas Maxwell and Teresa Eversole Aker of Max Meadows; two
sisters, Margaret A. Shipwash of Roanoke, Inez A. Hedge of Wytheville;
mother-in-law, Virginia U. Vaught of Wytheville; brother-in-law, Walter Thomas
Vaught, DVM, Wytheville, Va.; two granddaughters, Lisa and Brittney Aker; two
grandsons, Nathan and Cory Aker. Funeral services will be Friday, January 14,
1994, 11 a.m. in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev.
Joe Carrico, with the interment in the church cemetery. The family will
receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of
flowers donations may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Building
Fund. The remains will be placed in the church one hour before service time.
The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
