Slide entries must be postmarked by Feb. 15. Eligible for entry are paintings on paper in watercolor, acrylics, casein, gouache or other aqueous medium, not varnished, and executed in the past two years. Hollins seminar
The May Camp Walker Winter Seminar series at Hollins College continues on Jan. 19 with lectures by Lawrence Becker and Janet McDowell.
This year's seminars seek to answer the question: ``Who will pay if we get sick?'' Becker's talk is titled ``Fixing the System: A View From Germany.'' He is the Kenan Professor of Philosophy at the College of William and Mary. McDowell's talk is titled ``A Question of Ethics: Marcus Welby, Meet Managed Care.'' She is an ethics consultant with Carilion Health Systems.
The last talks of the seminar will be presented on Jan. 26. Thomas Robertson, president of Carilion Health System, will discuss ``Providing Care: The Hospital's Perspective,'' and Teresa Dimarco, vice president of program development and health care marketing at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia, will talk about ``Insuring the Patient, Protecting the System.''
All talks are held at 10:30 a.m. in Babcock Auditorium of the Dana Science Building on the Hollins campus.
Volunteers needed
Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest in Bedford County is looking for adult volunteers to give tours, work in the museum shop and assist staff with clerical work and other tasks.

Award nominees
Total Action Against Poverty is accepting nominations for the third annual Noel C. Taylor Distinguished Humanitarian Award. Nominees must live and serve in any of the 11 jurisdictions in the TAP service area - Roanoke, Roanoke County, Salem, Lexington, Buena Vista, Rockbridge County, Botetourt County, Covington, Clifton Forge, Alleghany County and Craig County.
Nominees also should exemplify these characteristics: capacity to promite unity and harmony, respect for the individual, compassion for low-income people and a commitment to creating opportunity for all.
