The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking contributions for families who have been affected by fires and other disasters during the winter season.

The Roanoke chapter spends more than $50,000 annually to provide food, clothing and a place to stay for families who need assistance. The chapter also replaces basic necessities once the family is permanently resettled. Last year, the Red Cross responded to nearly 80 house fires in the Roanoke area.
