UVA COACH, PLAYER HONORED

Bruce Arena, who guided Virginia to an unprecedented third consecutive NCAA men's soccer championship, was selected the Lanzera National Coach of the Year on Thursday at the National Soccer Coaches Convention.

Jac Cicala, in his second year at George Mason, was voted the top women's coach. His Patriots advanced to the NCAA championship game, where they lost to North Carolina 6-0.

Virginia's Claudio Reyna won the Hermann Trophy as the top male player. The junior midfielder had 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists.

North Carolina's Mia Hamm, the all-time leading scorer in women's soccer, won her second consecutive Hermann Trophy. - From Associated Press reports
