CRASH SERIOUSLY INJURES WOMAN

A woman was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when her car collided with a truck towing a horse trailer.

The wreck happened on U.S. 460 at the intersection of Southgate Drive about 3:40 p.m., police said.

Shun Hua Zhou, of Blacksburg, whose age and street address were not available, was flown by helicopter to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, police said. She was listed in very serious condition in the neuro-intensive-care unit with head injuries Thursday night, but was awake, according to the hospital's nursing supervisor.

The driver of the truck, 24-year-old Ronnie J. Mullins of Nemours, W.Va., was charged with reckless driving, police said. There was no report of Mullins suffering injuries in the wreck.

Zhou's car collided with the truck - traveling westbound on U.S. 460 - as she attempted to make a left turn from Southgate Drive into the eastbound lane of the highway, police said. The wreck delayed traffic for nearly two hours.

A veterinarian was called to the scene to examine a horse that was slightly injured, police said.

A court date for Mullins was set for Feb. 3 in Blacksburg General District Court, according to police.
