LACY, Robert Lee, ("Bob"), 85, of 108 Southview Avenue, Narrows, died
Tuesday evening, January 11, 1994 at his residence. He was born in McDowell,
W.Va. on March 4, 1908 and was the son of the late Rufus Chester and Rebecca
Minnie Pruett Lacy. He moved to Browning Lambert in Mercer County, W.Va. in
1918. He was a graduate of Matoaka High School at Matoaka, W.Va. and Concord
College at Athens, W.Va. He taught in the Mercer County School System until
World War II, serving in the European Theater during the war. He moved to
Narrows following his discharge from the service and worked in the United
States Post Office in Narrows until his retirement. He opened Lacy's Furniture
House in Narrows in 1951 and operated it for over 20 years. Mr. Lacy was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows. He was Past Commander
of the American Legion Post #68 in Narrows and served as Boy's State Chairman
for over 30 years, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6000
in Narrows. He was a member of the Narrows Kiwanis Club and Gicova Wildlife
Association of Narrows and was past-president of both organizations. He was a
brother of the Bailey Lodge #137 A.F.&A.M. Montcalm, W.Va. having receiving
his 50 year masonic pin in 1992. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet
Bailey Lacy on December 24, 1987 and brothers, Dewey Lacy and Delbert Lacy. He
is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Leland B. and Debra J. Lacy of
Blacksburg; brothers, Rev. Roy Lacy and Fred Lacy of Bluewell, W.Va.; a
sister, Mabel Helmondollar, Bluewell, W.Va.; and a very special friend, Bobbie
Gearheart, Narrows. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows with the Rev. Ralph Kidd officiating.
Burial will follow in Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Bluefield, W.Va. with
graveside rites conducted by the Giles County American Legion Posts and the
V.F.W. Post. A masonic memorial service will be held by Intermont Lodge #269
A.F.&A.M. Friday evening at 8 p.m. at Riffe's Funeral Home. The family will
receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. The family
requests that contribution be made to the First United Methodist Church,
Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 398, Narrow, Va. 24124.
