OBIT-MEZO, JOHN JOSEPH

MEZO, John Joseph, 62, of Blacksburg, died peacefully Wednesday, January 12, 1994. He was born and raised in Port Huron, Mich. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the intelligence division of the United States Air Force. After completing his military service, he returned home and graduated from Michigan State University in 1959. He retired as Supervisor of Purchasing from Corning Glass Works in 1988. Throughout his career he was an active member of the Purchasing Management Association of the Old Dominion. His volunteer efforts include serving as President and Chairman of the Board of the New River Valley Workshop and serving on the board of Warm Hearth, Inc. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Hazel; his son, Michael John of Norfolk. Funeral services will be 12 noon Saturday, January 15, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Father Michael Thompson with burial in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family asked that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the New River Valley Workshop or Warm Hearth, Inc. The family family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Friday evening at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.
