OBIT-HUFFMAN, GEORGE SHERWOOD

HUFFMAN, George Sherwood, 73, of the Old Oakvale Rd., Princeton, W.Va., died Thursday, January 13, 1994, in a Princeton hospital. Born September 8, 1920, in Princeton he was the son of the late William K. "Ken" and Delia Teddar Huffman. He was an insurance adjuster for USF&G Insurance Co. He was also an adjuster for the former Service Fire Insurance Co. for 20 years. He was a 1938 graduate of Princeton High School, a graduate of McClains Business College and attended Concord College. He was the oldest living charter member of Stinson United Methodist Church in Princeton where he served on the administrative board and was a former Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Gideons and served as a Lay Speaker for the Glenwood Park Retirement Village and the Freewill Baptist Church in Bluefield. He was former Lay Speaker for the Crow Christian Church in Beckley. He was a member of Princeton Masonic Lodge #134 AF&AM, Princeton Chapter #44 R.A.M., Bluefield Commandery #19, K.T., 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masons and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston. He was also the current Associate Patron and former Worthy Patron of Princeton Chapter #53 Order of The Eastern Star. He was Past West Virginia President and Past President of the Princeton Lodge #217, Woodmen of World. He was Past President of theToastmasters Club and was a member of the Lions Club. He also served as a volunteer for Princeton Community Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Huffman; one half sister, Hallie Burford and one half brother, Fred Heath. Survivors include his wife, Lelia Bernice "Bee" Hylton Huffman of Princeton; one daughter, Judith Ann Irvin, PHD (c) of Boston, Mass.; three grandchildren, Benjamin Hylton Irvin, Katherine Irvin Sirles and Cameron Sherwood Irvin; one brother, Claude Huffman of Lima, Ohio and one sister, Macie Hendrix of Whitesville, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. R. Emory (Zelda) Brubaker of Roanoke, Va. and Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Helmondollar of Chickasaw, Ala. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stinson United Methodist Church in Princeton with the Rev. Tom McDowell and the Rev. Junior Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton. Princeton Masonic Lodge #134 AF&AM will conduct graveside rites. Friends may call at the George W. Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday where Princeton Chapter #53, Order of The Easter Star will conduct a memorial service at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Health and Fitness Center, Princeton Community Hospital Foundation, P.O.
