CHIEFS SIGN FORMER TRIBE QB

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free-agent quarterback Chris Hakel to their 53-man active roster Friday and released defensive end Keith Traylor.

Hakel, 24, spent most of the regular season on the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder from William and Mary joined Atlanta's practice squad Oct. 27, 1993, and was released Monday, when his contract expired.

Hakel was a fourth-round draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 1992, but spent all of his rookie season on the injured reserve list with a shoulder problem.

Traylor, 24, was signed by the Chiefs last week, but was inactive for Kansas City's first-round playoff victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
