CITADEL TOPPLES VMI

David Stevens scored a career-high 22 points as The Citadel topped VMI 63-50 on Saturday night in a Southern Conference men's basketball matchup.

The Citadel improved its conference record to 1-3 and its overall mark to 5-5. VMI (1-9, 0-4) has lost 25 of its past 26 games.

Stevens hit eight of 13 field-goal attempts, including five of seven from 3-point range.

Down 6-5 two minutes into the game, The Citadel went on a 23-6 run in the next 10 minutes to take a 28-12 lead.

VMI regrouped and cut the lead to three with two minutes to go in the half, but the Bulldogs scored the next six points to take a 40-31 lead into the locker room.

Maurice Spencer led VMI with 15 points and Darryl Faulkner added 12, but The Citadel's defense held the Keydets to a 32.7 percent field-goal shooting.
