GREEN WAVE HALTS TECH WIN STREAK

Keisha Johnson scored 39 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Tulane beat Virginia Tech 75-64 in a Metro Conference basketball game Saturday.

The loss ended a nine-game winning steak for the Hokies (11-2 overall, 1-1 Metro).

Tech led 42-33 with 13:08 remaining, but Tulane (9-2, 1-1) went on a 13-2 run to lead 46-44 with 9:41 remaining.

Johnson, who had the second-highest total ever scored by a Green Wave player, scored all of her baskets in the low post and was 16-of-19 on field-goal attempts. Christy Thomaskutty added 17 points for Tulane.

Sue Logsdon led the Hokies with 16 points, and Christie Osborne added 13. The two shot a combined 9-of-25 on field-goal attempts.

The Hokies turned over the ball 25 times and lost for the first time since Virginia beat them on Dec. 8.

North Carolina State 44

RALEIGH, N.C. - Tora Suber sparked a key run in the first half and finished with 17 points to lead the Cavaliers over the Wolfpack in an ACC game.

Suber scored on a spin move in the lane and hit two free throws to give Virginia a four-point lead late in the first half. Jenny Boucek hit a long 3-pointer as the half ended to give the Cavaliers a seven-point edge.

They never looked back.

N.C. State (7-6, 1-4) committed 21 turnovers, 12 in the second half, to aid the Cavaliers.

Wendy Palmer added 14 points for Virginia (11-2, 4-0), which outscored the Wolfpack 34-15 in the second half.

Kolleen Kreul paced N.C. State with 21 points, and Jennifer Howard had 13.

Methodist 64

FERRUM - Marlo Ferguson-Jamison scored 17 points and had three steals as the Panthers beat the Monarchs in a Dixie Conference game.

Neither team shot well. Ferrum (8-5, 2-0) connected on 36 percent of its field-goal attempts, and Methodist (5-6, 1-1) shot 34 percent.

Glossary Smith scored eight points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Panthers, Niki Claiborne scored 15 points and had six rebounds and Dionne Smith scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds.

Lorrie Johnson led the Monarchs with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jo Zerger tied a career-high with 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Spartans whipped the Highlanders in a Big South Conference game.

Radford (5-6, 3-2) was held to 35.5 percent shooting and turned over the ball 24 times.

Shannan Wilkey led the Highlanders with a game-high 23 points, and Nicole Gardiner and Mindy Ballinger scored 12 points apiece.

The Spartans (5-7, 4-1) connected on 52.5 of their shots and used an 18-4 run with 13 minutes, 34 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 37-28 halftime lead.

Radford was outrebounded 48-29.

FREDERICKSBURG - Chris Gleisner scored a game-high 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked five shots as the Eagles coasted past the Generals in a non-conference game.

The Generals (5-5) had more turnovers (40) than points.

Mary Washington head coach Connie Gallahan collected her 200th win at the school. In 17 years as coach, she has compiled a record of 200-187.

Corinne May added 15 points and seven steals for the Eagles (8-1), who led 35-14 at halftime.

Mary Washington shot 50 percent, and Washington and Lee shot 31.6 percent.

Hollins 35

ASHLAND - The Yellow Jackets drilled Hollins in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.

Hollins (1-8, 1-7) turned over the ball 31 times and trailed 49-13 at halftime.

Randolph-Macon (7-3, 4-1) dominated the rebounding 39-27.

The Yellow Jackets started fast and relied on solid shooting, connecting on 56 percent of their shots.
