OBIT-LAVINDER, RUBY GARST
LAVINDER, Ruby Garst, 88, of Salem, died Friday, January 14, 1994 at the
Lewis-Gale Hospital. She was the wife of S. W. (Pete) Lavinder. She was a
retired schoolteacher, having taught in Salem and Roanoke County Public
Schools. She was a graduate of the Roanoke College. She was a member of St.
Paul's Episcopal Church and a past president of the Junior Women's Club. She
is survived by, other than her husband, one sister, Thelma Garst, Salem; three
nieces, Ruby Mae Hollingsworth, Cambridge, Minn., Sarah Eblen, Marion, Va.,
Joyce Cornette, Marion, Va.; one nephew, Paul Eblen, Lynchburg. Funeral
services will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday, January 17, 1994 at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church by the Dr. Robert T. Copenhaver. Burial will be in Sherwood
Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the
John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The family requests memorials to be
made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the Salem Rescue Squad, in lieu of
flowers. John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, is in charge of
arrangements.
