OBIT PRILLAMAN, ROBERT SHACKELFORD SR.

PRILLAMAN, Robert Shackelford Sr., 72, of 128 North Daniels Creek Road, Collinsville, died Friday, January 14, 1994 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was associated with Martinsville's oldest family operated business, Prillaman's Market. He was born November 22, 1921 at the Shackelford Hospital in Martinsville, a son of the late Crockett Lee "Dud" Prillaman and the late Minnie Hall Prillaman. He attended Bassett High School, joined the U. S. Army in 1943, where he served as a Staff Sargeant with the Signal Corps in the Phillipines and New Guinea in World War II. For a number of years he was co-owner of Prillaman's Market with the late Roy William Prillaman and later became the sole owner. He retired in 1989 after more than 50 years in the business. He was a former member of the Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years, was a member of the TPA, Bassett American Legion Post #11, and was a member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church, Collinsville. Surviving are his wife, Estelle Prillaman Prillaman; a son, Robert Shackelford Prillaman Jr., Collinsville; a daughter, Mrs. Steven Boyd (Ann Marie) Gibson, Collinsville; three grandsons; two sisters, Ocie Prillaman Hoffman, Norfolk and Christine Prillaman Philpott, Martinsville; a brother, Cecil Roy Prillaman, Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Collins Funeral Chapel, Bassett. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Collins, and other times, at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to Smith Memorial United Methodist Church, Collinsville, Va. 24078, or to an organization of the donor's choice.
