Staples, a former Patrick Henry-Roanoke player who will play at Virginia next year, hit eight of 14 3-point shots. Three of his 3-pointers came in the third quarter, when the Warriors (21-1) extended a six-point lead by outscoring the Rebels 30-17.
Louis Bullock led Canterbury (16-3) with 26 points. John Beverly added 17.
Point guard Shane Carnes had 10 assists, including four in the third quarter, for the Warriors. He will play at Tennessee next year.
Mark Blount had 23 points for Oak Hill, and 6-foot-7 Alex Sanders added 21 points and 10 rebounds. \
Saturday's game
\ Holy Cross 80, Carlisle 62: In Lynchburg, Luke Lesniak and Brian Lightner scored 21 points each, and the Crusaders took control by outscoring the Chiefs 28-10 in the second quarter en route to a Virginia Independent Conference victory.
Dan Schemmel added 15 points for Holy Cross (10-2, 4-0).
Rod Mitchell scored 26 points and Kevin Warren added 21 for Carlisle (2-10, 1-5). \
