OBIT-YOPP, WISTER G. SR.

YOPP, Wister G. Sr., 70, of Roanoke, died Sunday, January 16, 1994 in a local hospital. He was an active member and Deacon of Waverly Place Baptist Church, a veteran of WWII and Korea, and had retired, after 33 years, with the City of Roanoke. Mr. Yopp was an avid collector of John Wayne memorabilia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Beulah Yopp, and a brother, Dwight Yopp. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Betty Yopp; sons and daughters-in-law, Wister G. Jr. and Fay Yopp, Roanoke, Terry L. and Linda Yopp, Plaino, Texas; three grandchildren, Steve Yopp, Mrs. Richard (Karen) Ata, and Shannon Yopp; also two great-grandchildren, Delores and Renee Ata; several nieces and nephews; four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be conducted from Waverly Place Baptist Church, 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 1994, with the Rev. Charles Hoffler and the Rev. Dr. Steve Spangler officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel after 12 o'clock Monday.
