CITY MAN SHOT IN HOME; WIFE ARRESTED, CHARGED

Police were trying to sort out details Tuesday night after a man was found shot in the abdomen in the 2700 block of Brooklyn Drive Northwest.

Lt. Ron Carlisle of the Roanoke Police Department said officers found Horace L. Candis, 41, on the floor of his living room just before 5 p.m.

Carlisle said Candis and another man, who was not identified, argued and later started to fight. As the two men were fighting, a woman fired a shot as they wrestled on the floor, Carlisle said.

Candis was struck by the bullet and was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A nursing supervisor at the hospital said Candis was in stable condition Tuesday night after surgery.

Virginia Gravely Candis, 51, the victim's wife, was arrested at the scene and charged with malicious wounding, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
